Salvado, Rosendo, 1814-1900
Variant namesPioneer Catholic prelate. Born in Galicia, Spain, he arrived in WA in 1846 and subsequently established a Benedictine monastery at New Norcia as the centre of a mission to the Aborigines. In 1867, Pope Pius IX constituted the monastery as an abbey nullius dioecesis with Dom Salvado as perpetual abbot and bishop. The community at New Norcia included schools, farms and a Post and Telegraph Office.

Pioneer Catholic prelate. Born in Galicia, Spain, he arrived in WA in 1846 and subsequently established a Benedictine monastery at New Norcia as the centre of a mission to the Aborigines. In 1867, Pope Pius IX constituted the monastery as an abbey nullius dioecesis with Dom Salvado as perpetual abbot and bishop. William Henry Timperley (1833-1909) was a member of the W.A. Police Force from 1856-1905. After serving in Toodyay, Bunbury, Champion Bay, the Vasse, and Perth, he became Superintendent of the Native Police at Rottnest in 1884. From 1890-1905 he was Resident Magistrate for Wellington, Blackwood and the Sussex District.
