Cleveland, H. W. S. (Horace William Shaler), 1814-1900

After spending time in New England, New Jersey and New York working in landscape architecture, Cleveland settled in Chicago in 1869, establishing a landscape architectural firm. In 1886, he moved his firm to Minneapolis. Considered a visionary landscape architect, Cleveland was responsible for the design of the Minneapolis park system. In the late 1890s, Cleveland moved to Honsdale, Illinois to live with his son Ralph. H. W. S. Cleveland died in 1900.
