He also taught at the Americ.an Academy of Dramatic Arts. In the 1930s he joined the Actors' Equity Association and was a member of its Executive Committee. He was accused of being a communist supporter and was blacklisted after being summoned by the House Committee on Un-American Activities in 1951.
