Advertising executive; born in Asbury Park, New Jersey; was graduated from Rutgers University in 1925; taught high school for one year; worked next as an automobile claims adjuster and then as an assistant advertising manager for Pacific Mills; worked for the advertising firm of Baten, Barton, Durstine and Osborn for over 40 years beginning in 1928, including as a vice president, 1940-1946, executive vice president (in charge of all creative operations), 1946-1957, general manager and acting chief executive, 1957, president, 1957-1964, and chairman of the board and chief executive officer, 1964-1970; also served Rutgers University as a Trustee, beginning in 1946, and as a member (later chair) of the Board of Governors, beginning in 1956.
