David Mitchell was a Pennsylvania ironmaster who worked at Great Salt Works in Westmoreland Co. and Huntingdon Furnace in Huntingdon Co. He was married to Eliza Gregg, daughter of Andrew Gregg (1755-1835), Representative and Senator from Pennsylvania, secretary of State of Pennsylvania in 1820-1823 and the unsuccessful candidate for the Governor in 1823. Mitchell's son Andrew, also an ironmaster, worked with Andrew Gregg, Jr. at Milesburg Iron Works (1845).
