Illustrator, muralist and portrait painter, Schoonover was born in Oxford, N.J., and lived for much of his life in Wilmington; educated for nine years at Model School, Trenton, and for four years at the art department of Drexel University under Howard Pyle; illustrated for national magazines and publishing houses and wrote on the Canadian trapper of the far north for Scribners.
