Lasky, Victor
Variant namesAbraham Victor Lasky was born January 1, 1918 in New York. His parents were Bella and Max Gurinsky; some years later his father died. His mother then married Max Lasky, who adopted Victor and changed his name from Gurinsky to Lasky. He had two sisters, Lee Frankel of Queens, N.Y. and Millie Sayles of Brooklyn. In 1952 he married Patricia Pratt from Johnstown, Ohio. They had no children. Mr. Lasky died in Washington D.C. on February 22, 1990 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. In 1940 he graduated from Brooklyn College, New York with a BA degree. An honorary doctorate was awarded to him by Ashland University (OH) in 1983. During this same year he started as a copy boy with the NEW YORK JOURNAL AMERICAN. His military career began in 1942 as a reporter with the STARS AND STRIPES. In addition, he wrote for RKO Radio in 1955 and MGM Studios in Hollywood. After World War II he joined with Frederick Woltman in writing a Pulitzer-Prize winning series on communist infiltration of American institutions. From 1956 to 1960 he was a public relations executive with Radio Liberty in New York.
