Saul Kussiel Padover (1905-1981), historian and teacher, was born in Austria but came to the U.S. in 1920. He was a prolific author including among his subjects Thomas Jefferson and Karl Marx. From 1938 to 1943 he served as Assistant Secretary of the Interior and did intelligence work in Europe during World War II. Later he taught American political history at the New School in New York City.

He received a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1930 and was a member of the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research from 1949. His interests included American Political and constitutional in the era of the Founding Fathers and also the work of Karl Marx.
