Rodolfo Neri Vela (b. Feb. 19, 1952, Chilpaningo, Gro., Mexico) is a Mexican scientist and astronaut. He is the first Mexican, and the second Latin-American to have traveled to space. He holds a PhD in electromagnetic radiation from the University of Birmingham, England (1979) and has worked at the Institute of Electrical Research, Mexico. He was a member of Atlantis in 1985, traveling 2.4 million miles in 108 Earth orbits and logged over 165 hours in space.
