(Mexico); BS, mechanical and electronic engineering, University of Mexico, 1975; studied the master's program in science, specialized in telecommunications systems, 1975-1976, University of Essex, England; PhD in electromagnetic radiation, University of Birmingham, England, 1979; worked at the Institute of Electrical Research, Mexico; post-graduate lecturer and researcher at the National University of Mexico; Member of Atlantis (1985), traveled 2.4 million miles in 108 Earth orbits, and logged over 165 hours in space.
