Todd, Ruthven, 1914-1978
Variant namesRuthven Todd was born in Edinburgh, and educated at Fettes College and the Edinburgh School of Art. After graduating he held a few odd jobs, while concentrating on painting, and was associated with the Surrealist movement.. He later worked as a copywriter and journalist, and made a name for himself as a poet, novelist, and short-story writer. He was part of the Civil Defense during World War II, and moved to the United States after the war, where he worked at several colleges and opened a printing press. He also wrote several children's books, and was a prominent editor of William Blake's works.

Ruthven Campbell Todd, Scottish poet, writer and expert on Blake, was born in 1914 and educated at Fettes College, Edinburgh. After a period of uncertainty, he decided to enter the literary world, supporting a young family with his earnings as an advertiser's copy-writer and writer of poetry and fiction. A conscientious objector, he continued thus in various localities during the war. Other novels and books of poems followed until he left England for good in 1947 for the United States and then, in 1958, Mallorca, where he died in 1978

Ruthven Campbell Todd (1914–1978) was a Scottish poet and novelist, an editor of William Blake, and an artist. He also wrote under the name R. T. Campbell.
