Sturgis, J. H. (John Hubbard), 1834-1888
Variant namesArchitect. Partner in Bryant and Gilman (1861-1866) and principal designer with Charles Brigham (1866-1886). Introduced terra cotta into the design of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (Copley Square) in the 1880s. Clients included: Samuel Ward, Ogden Codman, Edward D. Boit, Jr., Henry Cabot Lodge, Edward N. Perkins, Hollis Hunnewell, Charles Sprague Sargent, Frederick L. Ames and Isabella Stewart Gardner.
