John Byron, British naval officer. His frequent bad luck in terms of weather conditions earned him the nickname "Foul-weather Jack." In 1768, he published a narrative of the struggle for survival after a shipwreck, which later supplied suggestions for the shipwreck scene in Don Juan by Lord Byron, John Byron's grandson.
