Louis Placide Canonge (1822-1893) was a New Orleans-born playwright, journalist, editor, lawyer, educator and politician. He was educated in Paris; after returning to New Orleans, he specialized in French-language drama and journalism. He worked as manager of a French operatic company in New Orleans, was superintendent of education in Orleans Parish, and was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
