John Alden Loring (1872 - 1947) served as a field naturalist with the Bureau of Biological Survey, United States Department of Agriculture from 1892 to 1897. During that time he conducted extensive field surveys in all regions of the United States, as well as in Canada and Mexico. His field work is documented in the Division of Mammals, at the National Museum of Natural History.
