Davies, Godfrey, 1892-1957
Variant namesGodfrey Davies, prominent British and American historian, an authority on seventeenth century English history. He was born in England and educated at Pembroke College, Oxford, where he studied with Sir Charles Harding Firth. In 1925 he emigrated to the United States and taught at the University of Chicago, the University of California at Los Angeles, and the California Institute of Technology. In 1931 he jointed the research staff of the Huntington Library, serving as editor of its Quarterly and chairman of the research staff.
