Robert Floyd Kennon (1902-1988) was born near Minden, La., and attended Louisiana State University, where he earned an undergraduate degree in 1923 and a law degree in 1925. Kennon was mayor of Minden (1925-1928), district attorney for the 26th Judicial District (Bossier and Webster Parishes) (1930-1940), a judge of the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeals (1942), an associate justice of the Louisiana State Supreme Court (1945-1947), and governor of Louisiana (1952-1956). He attained the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Louisiana National Guard and served overseas with the XIII Corps, Ninth Army, during World War II.
