Siblings Carlos Spaht and Leona Spaht Huff moved with their family from Missouri to Louisiana in 1925. Carlos graduated from LSU Law School and served with the U.S. Army in China during World War II. He was president of both the LSU Alumni Federation and Board of Supervisors. He unsuccessfully ran for governor in 1952. Leona Spaht Huff studied home economics at LSU. She taught home economics and English in Berwick, Louisiana, and later worked for the Emergency Relief Association as a caseworker.
