Hunter, William, 1774-1849
Variant namesWilliam M. Hunter, a United States Navy officer. Midshipman (1809), Lieutenant (1813, July 24), commander (Mar. 21, 1826), Captain (Feb. 9, 1837). He served with Charles Stewart (1778-1869), on the Constitution, during its cruise to the Windward Islands and later, in 1820-1824, in the Pacific Squadron. Hunter died on March 5, 1849.
