Kathryn D. Sullivan (b. Oct. 3, 1951, Patterson, NJ) was an astronaut who served on the Challenger, Discovery, and Atlantis shuttles. She joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1989 and retired as a captain in 2006. After leaving NASA, Sullivan was president and CEO of the COSI Columbus and was Director for Ohio State University's Battelle Center for Mathematics and Science Education Policy. Pres. Obama nominated Sullivan to serve as the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator; she was confirmed in March, 2014.
