Jones, Brenda B., 1959-

Brenda B. Jones (born October 24, 1959) is an American politician from Michigan. She is the President of the Detroit City Council, to which she was first elected in 2005. Jones briefly served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Michigan's 13th congressional district from November 2018 to January 2019. She is a member of the Democratic Party.

Jones was born in Birmingham, Alabama, her family moved to Detroit, Michigan during her childhood. She graduated from Cass Technical High School and later received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Graduate certificate from Wayne State University. Jones worked for Michigan Bell and was later elected as a union president of the Communications Workers of America Local 4004 in Detroit. She was appointed as an executive on the boards of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and the Detroit Transportation Commission. In 2005, Jones was elected to the Detroit City Council after placing ninth in the general election where nine seats were available and was reelected in 2009, 2013, and 2017.

Following the December 2017 resignation of longtime Congressman John Conyers, his 13th Congressional district seat remained vacant. A special primary and special general election were held on dates alongside the regularly scheduled primary and general election in August and November 2018. In the special Democratic primary, Jones narrowly defeated former State Representative Rashida Tlaib; in the regular Democratic primary, Tlaib narrowly defeated Jones. In the heavily Democratic district, both victories were tantamount to election. Jones would serve the remainder of Conyers' term in the 115th Congress while Tlaib would serve in the 116th Congress. Though Jones would primary Tlaib in 2020, her efforts fell short. She has said that she will not be seeking re-election to the Detroit city council in 2021.
