Variant namesCatholic priest of St. Louis, Mo., and Dublin, Ireland; member of Jesuit order; chaplain of Confederate States Army; emissary to Ireland, 1863, sent by Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin to discourage Irish soldiers from joining the United States Army; grandson of Henry Sanford Pageman Mahon.
