Begole was born in N.Y. (State) on Jan. 20, 1815. He left for Mich. Territory at the age of 21, settling in what is now Flint (Mich.). In 1839 he married Harriet A. Miles and began work on a farm. After holding several local political positions, he served as County Treasurer, 1856-1864; State Senator, 1871-1872; a member of Congress, 1873-1875; and Governor of Mich., 1883-1885. He died at Flint on June 6, 1896. GAR Post 127 was named for Billy Begole, who was probably his son. No information is available on Anderson. (Information from Michigan Biographies, v. 1, p. 71.).

Josiah Williams Begole was born in Groveland, N.Y., Jan. 20, 1815 ; attended Temple Hill Academy, Genesee, N.Y. ; moved to Flint, Mich., 1836 ; taught school, 1837-38 ; engaged in agriculture, 1839-56 ; school inspector ; justice of the peace ; township treasurer ; county treasurer, 1856-64 ; in lumber business, 1863 ; member of State Senate, 1870 and 1871 ; member of U.S. Congress, Republican, 1873-75 ; again in lumber business and banking ; Governor of Michigan, 1883-1885 ; resumed his former business ; died in Flint, Mich.
