Soprano (1920-2005). Born in Houston, Texas. Created the role of Susan B. Anthony in the premiere of Virgil Thomson's The Mother of Us All (1947). Also known for her performance of Arnold Schoenberg's Erwartung in Europe and at its American premiere with the New York Philharmonic under Dmitri Mitropoulos (1951), and for performing the role of Renata in the first staged performance of Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel at Venice (1955). Juilliard School alumna; studied voice with Evan Evans and received Diploma in Voice on May 28, 1942. Faculty member of Rutgers University and Montclair University.
