Burwell had business dealings with St. George Tucker, John M. Galt, John Page, Edmund Randolph, and many other residents of Williamsburg, Virginia. Loose papers include court papers from a litigation suit, an account for John Bryan's estate, and a letter to a London merchant firm.

Nathaniel Burwell (1750-1814) was the son of Carter and Lucy Grymes Burwell. He attended the College of William and Mary between 1759 and 1772. He married twice, first to Susannah Grymes and after her death to Lucy Page Baylor. Both unions produced eight children. Burwell lived at Carter's Grove until his second marriage, at that time, he moved to Clark County, Va., where he erected Carter's Hill. St. George Tucker (1752-1827), was born in Bermuda and emigrated to Williamsburg, Virginia where he attended the College of William and Mary. He served in the Revolutionary War, as a judge of the General Court of Virginia, and as professor of law at the College of William and Mary. He was elected to the Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia. Tucker was appointed to the federal district court for Virginia.
