The volume is the account book of the chief coiners of the United States Mint in Philadelphia, Henry Voight and his assistant and successor, Adam Eckfeldt. It includes records of expenses, rent receipts and accounting for the purchase of a steam engine in 1798.

Indian head pennies or cents were minted from 1859 to 1909. They were designed by James Barton Longacre. Buffalo nickels were minted from 1913 through 1938, they were designed by James Earle Fraser. The nickels were different from previous coins that pictured an Indian in that the Indian portrayed was more than a European looking individual adorned with a headdress and instead had more accurate facial characteristics.
