Rudolf Serkin (1903-1991) was a Hungarian-born composer. He studied and performed throughout Europe until 1933, when he and violinist Adolf Busch and family left Germany for Switzerland (Serkin was later to marry Busch's daughter, Irene). In 1939 they emigrated to the United States, where Serkin taught at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and was later (1968-1976) its Director.
