Consist of correspondence, writings, speeches, reports, interviews, subject files, clippings, a scrapbook, photographs and ephemera. Collection includes records of the European Bookshop (1931-1936), papers of her Civil Rights activities (1941-1984), including the focus of the collection, Japanese-American relocation (1942-1951), her campaign for California State Assembly (1950), and records of the Yerba Buena Nursery (1983-1990). The Japanese-American relocation papers include correspondence and interviews of evacuees while chairmen of the Palo Alto Committee on Fair Play and American Principles, materials supporting Japanese-American involvement in the war effort, reports for the War Relocation Authority (WRA), and the American Friends Service Committee, including a report of her visit to Tule Lake, and publications of the Japanese-American Citizens League.

Gerda Isenberg, born June 8, 1901 near Hamburg, Germany, came to Carmel, Calif., via Hawaii, in 1923. In the 1930's Isenberg co-owned the European Bookshop with Gertrude Zenzes, became interested in Quaker views and joined the Society of Friends, and helped to resettle European refugees. In 1941 she purchased a cattle ranch in Woodside, Calif. where she founded Yerba Buena Nursery in 1960 and where she work for the rest of her life.
