Letters from the war, 1917-1918.

Brunelleschi sends a Christmas postcard to Joseph Uzanne in Paris, filling in his full military address - regiment, battalion, division, and indication "zona di guerra" (Dec. 28,1917). A 4 page letter informs a friend that his battalion is in Trieste, and he cannot go to Venice to meet d'Annunzio. The artist is working on a large portrait of the Duc d'Aosta, the army commander. Brunelleschi's military duty ends the following month, when he will finally be able to return to his Parisian life (Dec. 31, 1918).
