History of mesmerism, beginning with the presentation of Franz Mesmer's dissertation in Vienna in 1766 and continuing through 1808. Supplemental notes extend the history to Mesmer's death in 1815. Frontispiece is a portrait of Mesmer with a printed verse beneath it. The attribution "d'Ourches" has been added to the title page in a later hand.
