Augustus Pickering letter, Dec. 20, 1840.

Letter to Nicholas Doe (member of Congress) describing his activities since moving from New York to St. Joseph, Mich., in 1837, including an extended account of being caught in ice in the Straits of Mackinac and having to walk from Mackinaw City to Saginaw in winter and a briefer account of running aground the following year at Michigan City, Ind. Doe has added a brief letter of his own describing Congressional activities, addressed to his brother Joseph Doe, of South Burwick, Me.
