Papers, 1947-1968, Milan and Venice.

Collection consists chiefly of correspondence (letters received and copies of outgoing letters) regarding the 1952, 1954, 1956 and 1958 Biennale di Venezia; this is the material from the office of Arduino Nardella as Secretary General of the Associazione Artisti d'Italia but includes correspondence of Francesco Flora and Alberto Savinio, national president and president for the region of Lazio. Participation is requested of contemporary artists such as Massimo Campigli, Enrico Pallucci, Renato Guttuso, and Giorgio Morandi, who flatly refuses for political reasons. There is also an interesting exchange of letters between Nardella and Giorgio De Chirico (1954-1955), the latter commenting on his current work dealing with the situation of the plastic arts and expressing his disgust with the quality of works recently exhibited in Milan. With a brief note from Leonardo Borgese (1947). Chronologically arranged. (Folder 1).

ca. 200 items.
