The collection consists of seven items: three typed letters to Dr. W.L. Werner, including: 29 April 1942, on The Lycoming hotel letterhead, forwarding an Elinor Wylie sonnet he had printed, with information about his periodical, The Sonnet, and his book collection, ravaged by flood; undated letter with envelope dated 20 Oct. 1944, giving directions to his new residence; 2 February 1947, discussing his books, asking if Werner's college library had copies of them, and regretting that due to his poverty he cannot send copies of his works; also, typed postal card to Werner, 23 Jan. 1947, describing his unsettled circumstances ("I have slept under a dozen roofs with no degree of permanence about any of them"); also, number seven volume two of The Sonnet, Nov.-Dec. 1919, edited by Fisher, with sonnets by Fisher and Robert Hillyer; The Golden Galleon anthology for 1924, as published by Arthur Fowler, poems culled from volume one of the quarterly magazine The Golden Galleon, with works by Fisher and others; The First Printing of a Wylie Sonnet, issued as a supplement to The Sonnet, published by Fisher in 1937, showcasing the Elinor Wylie sonnet Nadir, first written in 1921.

Mahlon Leonard Fisher was an American poet and editor. Born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and educated both privately and in public schools, he trained as an architect and practiced for many years. In 1917, he founded and edited a poetry journal, The Sonnet, and began contributing poetry to various magazines; he later was associated with The Golden Galleon. In addition to individual poems, he also published several books of poetry, and contributed specialty lyrics to some musical productions. ...

William L. Werner was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 20, 1894. He received a bachelor's degree from Muhlenberg College in 1915 and served in France with the 316th Infantry during World War I. He was an instructor in English at Penn State in 1920, earning a master's degree in 1922. Following Dr. Fred Lewis Pattee's retirement in 1928, he assumed much of Dr. Pattee's work in American literature.
