Pierre Legros drawings, between 1690 and 1700.

On recto: two variants of Louis XIV bust in an oval frame within an aedicule, surmounted by the king's emblem, the sun, his device "nec pluribus impar" and the royal crown topping the gable. The king in armor holds a baton in his right hand. The base is decorated with a military trophy. The first drawing is partially covered with grey wash to make room for the second variant, slightly bigger and with changes in details. On verso: seven drawings of Roman military trophies and one helmet, possibly contemporary with the second variant on the recto.

10 drawings (on both sides of 1 sheet) : brown ink with grey wash ; 42 x 27.5 cm. in frame 47 x 30.5 cm.

Member of the Académie Royale in 1666, Pierre Legros worked all his life for Louis XIV with the title of "sculpteur du Roy," mostly for sculptural decoration of the château and gardens of Versailles.
