Letters to Francesco Terriesi, ambassador in London, 1679-1690.

309 dispatches from the Medici court of Cosimo III, Grand Duke of Tuscany, to Francesco Terriesi, his ambassador at the English court in London during the reigns of Charles II, James II, and the first years of William & Mary. Half of the letters are signed by Cosimo, 105 by his Chancellor and Prime minister Baron Adriano Panciatichi, 50 by his lifetime secretary and Keeper of the cipher, Apollonio Bassetti, and 2 by his brother, Cardinal Francesco Maria de' Medici. Included are 2 private letters: one from 1688 signed by Thomas Plott, stating his unshaken allegiance to the Catholic Church; the other is a partial copy of a letter from a merchant of Florentine cloth in London asking that the Grand Duke abolish the interdiction against the sale of English cloth in Florence, which is triggering a similar answer from Parliament against Florentine cloth in London.
