Response to early 1930s Ph.D.s Survey, 1980.

A one-page explanatory letter to Spencer Weart, director of AIP's Center for History of Physics; an eighteen-page autobiographical essay, entitled Fifty Years of Physics, whose sections refer specifically to the questionnaire, but which also cover Schoepfle's years at Oberlin College, Cornell University, and Kent State University (during the 1960s and 1970s), including his reflections on teaching, courses, and faculty; and a photocopy of an article on graduate student/faculty ratios and faculty teaching loads written by Richard Madey and Schoepfle. Respondents were asked to discuss their choice of physics as a profession and the course of their careers, their satisfactions and disappointments, the changes they saw in working and teaching conditions in the field, and relations within the community and with the society at large.
