Plans of Château de Saint-Cloud. 1827-1839.

Most of the eighteen colored drawings were made to be engraved for a volume in the series of royal residences entitled Château de Saint-Cloud: domaine de la couronne. Ten architectural drawings of the six stories of the château (from basement to fourth floor) were included in the volume printed in Paris in 1839 as two successive series dated 1838 and 1839 (one drawing is missing from each series). The collection also comprises a third series of five smaller floor plans (17 x 25 cm.) on thin paper, less elaborate and with fewer details, presumably from an earlier date. Also unpublished are three drawings from earlier periods than the printed volume: a sketch of the waterworks restoration in the "Fer-à-cheval" pool in front of the castle, dated in pencil 1827; a plan of the second floor with new accommodations for the royal children; and an early view of the southern facade of the château before the development of the surrounding park. Some drawings have short inscriptions in pencil.

18 drawings (16 sheets) : black ink and watercolor ; 26 x 35 cm. or smaller, on paper 29 x 44 cm. or smaller.
