The Board of Gas and Electric Light Commissioners had general supervision of corporations that manufactured or sold gas for lighting or fuel, and from 1887 of electric light companies. Transcripts of Haverhill Gas Light Company vs. Board of Gas and Electric Light Commissioners were created during the course of a suit heard before the U.S. District Court in 1913 concerning an order that had been issued by the board to the company to reduce its rates for gas sold in Haverhill.
