Letters received, ca. 1884-1916.

Primarily letters received from Anglican bishops and archbishops responding to requests from Hunter for information on portraits or engravings of their predecessors in office. Several other letters are from British painters, sculptors, architects and politicians giving brief details of their work, or related matters, again usually in response to communications from Hunter. Included are letters of Edward Poynter, William Ouless and Frank Dicksee on portrait painting; a letter of Thomas Graham Jackson concerning monuments designed by him at Brighton College; letters of Briton Riviere and Alfred Gilbert relating to their work for the Royal Academy; and a letter of William Blake Richmond pertaining to altar paintings. Some of the correspondents furnish some biographical information for the Cheltenham College registrar, though others state that they never attended the institution. The remaining letters relate principally to matters conceerning Cheltenham College. Organization: Arranged alphabetically by correspondent.
