Letters : to Dr. John C. Rolfe, 1910.

The collection comprises a telegram and two letters sent to Dr. John C. Rolfe by Horace Howard Furness. The telegram sent from Wallingford, PA expresses condolences on his father's death, which will also "bring sorrow to every lover of the best literature" (1910 July 8). It was followed by two letters. The first is filled with heartening consolations on Rolfe's loss, which also "falls heavily" on Furness himself [1910]. The second letter regards an "exquisite memento" received from Rolfe. Furness intends to return it within one year, because it should remain in his friend's family "as an invaluable heirloom" [1910].
