Crawford H. Greenewalt was an executive with the Du Pont Company and president of the firm from 1948 to 1962. He joined the company in 1922 and served as a supervisor on the nylon project in the 1930s and during the war as technical liason on the Manhattan Project. He was an accomplished amateur photographer and ornithologist and author of a study of hummingbirds (1960). William Hilles Ward was born on December 27, 1892, at Barnesville, Ohio, and received a received a B.A. in chemistry from Swarthmore College in 1915. He then joined E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company as a chemist at the Eastern Laboratory at Gibbstown, N.J., and became the head of the Explosives Testing Section there in 1920.
