Record of journey from New York to join her cavalry officer husband, A.J. Alexander, at Ft. Smith, Ark., and experiences with him on active duty throughout the Southwest. Descriptions of travel with the army and life at various forts and camps, including Forts Union, Bascom and Garland; of the Indians, especially the Ute, Navaho and Pueblo tribes; of various people she met, including Kit Carson and "M. le Blanc," a mountain man who had aided the survivors of the Frémont Expedition.
