Letter to William Collins, 1818 Aug. 23.

The artist writes to Collins "on board ship" as he is returning to the United States after many years spent in England. He expresses further thoughts following their recent talk about Samuel Taylor Coleridge's domestic difficulties. Allston urges Collins "not to say anything concerning Mrs. C.," to art patron Sir George Beaumont, but to mention Coleridge's financial difficulties, which he lists in a postscript. He asks Collins to convey his gratitude to Sir George, and his compliments to Mr. Wordsworth and Mr. Southey. He also asks him to write about "all that is going on in the Art," adding: "my address is simply Boston, United States."
