Heinrich Schwarz papers, 1928-1988.

Heinrich Schwarz's articles, lectures, correspondence and research materials, including notes and photographs, document his role as a professor, author and curator in the United States. The extensive research materials primarily concern his work in early photography, optical mechanics, perspective, photography's relation to art, and the iconology of the mirror and the owl. Some materials concern his work in Austrian art. His correspondents include Beaumont Newhall, Julius Held, Erwin Panofsky and other scholars and artists. The collection also contains the correspondence of his wife Elisabeth Schwarz which primarily concerns her attempts to publish his works after his death.

Schwarz had known Alma Mahler in Vienna before her emigration; her letter indicates that he had arranged the original loan of her paintings to the Moderne Galerie.
