Correspondence of Henry Hitchcock, 1818-1819.

This series consists of correspondence addressed to Henry Hitchcock, 1818 June - 1819 Mar. Hitchcock served as Secretary of the Territory from 1818 May 14 - 1819 Dec. 16, when he was appointed Attorney General for the State of Ala. Hitchcock also served as Acting Governor of the Territory during Bibb's absence from St. Stephens, notably during the summer of 1818. Consequently the correspondence found in this series is very similar to and closely related to the records of the Governor. Most of the correspondence is routine and concerns commissions, appointments, resignations and elections.
