Thomas Williams legal documents, 1787-1846.

The legal documents of Thomas Williams of Hampton, Connecticut, consist of a certificate from the Academy of Plainfield, 1787; two commissions, one as a lieutenant, the second as captain in the 5th Regiment, Connecticut militia, 1795, 1799; permission for him to use a patented shingle mill, 1825; the constitution of a society against profane swearing, at the bottom of which is a letter from his nephew George T. Stedman, 1830; and deeds, 1787-1833. Also includes typescript of the above listed documents, typescripts of gravestone carvings and letters not part of this collection, and an agreement in which Palmer Welch agreed to work for the Lycoming Coal Company as a common laborer, 1846.

Colonel Thomas E. Williams had a Marine Corps career that stretched from 1941-1962. He was in the Pacific during World War II, and then he was assigned to Europe. He assumed his first major Cold War command of the Camp Matthews weapons training regiment in 1956. He was posted to China, Europe, and the Army War College.
