Clergyman's private register, 1855-1920 (bulk 1867-1875).

Cortlandt Whitehead's private register recording his work as clergyman at church services from June 1867 to June 1875, with separate entries for baptisms, confirmations, marriages, burials, and sermons preached. He includes a personal history, and notes yearly statistics, "colored" services, collection amounts, and causes of death. Tipped in are a document relating to his baptism and newspaper clippings, and laid in loose are three letters dated 1895 and 1902 concerning marriages he performed. There are also newspaper clippings relating to churches in Colorado.

Cortlandt Whitehead (1842-1922), graduated from Yale in 1863 and was ordained Deacon in Trinity Church, Newark, N.J. in 1867. He left for mission work in Colorado in August 1867, where he served at St. Paul's Church in Central City, St. Mark's Chapel in Black Hawk, and Grace Church in Georgetown. In 1870 he became Rector of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was consecrated Bishop of Pittsburgh in 1882. From the description of Clergyman's private register, 1855...
