E.H. Sothern in Cleveland, Ohio, writes to the Secretary of the Press Supply Association describing his first professional acting appearance in September 1879 playing the part of a cabman in an American revival of "Brother Sam," a show written by John Oxenford in 1862 for his father, and in which his father played the lead.
