Carl Van Vechten photograph collection, 1930s-1950s.

This collection consists of approximately 800 black and white photographs created by Carl Van Vechten. Most of these are prints in post card format, with handwritten captions and notes by the photographer, and many of the post cards were sent through the mail to Sandy Campbell in New York City. The photographs are predominantly formal portraits of acclaimed actors, singers, dancers, artists, writers, playwrights, athletes, and other individuals. Fourteen of the photographs are larger format prints; one is framed.
