Packaging Science students' award winning project, 2009.

The Packaging Science Students National Design Challenge winning project contains two examples of the winning package design stored in one box. One example is a container, the other a flat CD booklet with room for 3 CDs. Award-winning 3-D packaging design by RIT students Lynsie Gibson and Zachary Mendoza, graduates of the Packaging Science program in the College of Applied Science and Technology at RIT.

It is unclear when the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) first admitted minority students. However, it appears as though the first African American students entered the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed RIT in 1944) during the early 1900s. For instance, in 1906 Fredericka Sprague, the granddaughter of Frederick Douglass, took classes at the Institute.
